Baobab: Highlights

Baobab Around the World

New TV Feature Series

OTTAWA, Feb. 25, 1999 -- Baobab Productions will soon begin taping a new series of features for the CTV television program The Canadian Farm. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) has confirmed that as part of its "Development Information Program" it will contribute a significant portion of the production funding for thirteen short features. They will be about the lives of farm families in developing countries in Asia and Africa and the impact agricultural research is having on their lives.

"We are thrilled about the support from CIDA," says Baobab's David Mowbray. "It's the second year in a row that they have endorsed Baobab's efforts to enlighten Canadians about this vital work."

Last season Baobab produced ten features, all from the Americas, showing how grass roots research with the rural poor improves food production, family nutrition and income. The new series will expand the theme to look at work in the Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, Kenya and Malawi. The particular impact Canadian support has had in these areas will be highlighted.

The Canadian Farm, starting it's third season this September, is produced for CTV by Carleton Productions International. Seen by about 150,000 Canadians every week the show is a prime source of information for Canada's rural communities.

Baobab Productions Inc. is one of the world's leading producers of communications material about research in the developing world. You can view samples of our earlier features for The Canadian Farm at on our video pages. For more information, contact Marlene Bedford:
