Baobab: Highlights

Baobab Around the World

Net Worth Published

OTTAWA, Oct. 18 , 1998 -- The Gender Program of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research has just published Net Worth, a monograph about research with women fish farmers in Bangladesh. The text, written by Baobab's David Mowbray and Marlene Bedford, tells the story of a research program which is increasing fish production, improving people's diets and giving women new income and self-esteem. Much of the story is told through the words of poor Bangladeshi women who participated in the research project.

The aquaculture research itself is a collaborative project of the Manila-based International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management and the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute. Much of the research funding comes from the United States Agency for International Development.

Marlene Bedford took all the photographs in the monograph, which is the third in a series. Research for the publication was conducted in Bangladesh in November and December of 1997.

Graphic design and layout is by Herrera Berman Graphics of Ottawa. Copies of Net Worth are available from the CGIAR Secretariat in Washington, or from Baobab Productions Inc.
