Baobab: Highlights

Baobab Around the World

Baobab - Award Winner!

OTTAWA, March 15, 1998 -- Baobab's video To Leave Something More has won the special International Cooperation Award at this year's International Festival of Agricultural Videos (RIVA). The video festival was held from Feb. 27 - March 1, 1998 in Ste. Hyacinthe, Quebec. A hundred and sixty-four videos and films from fifteen countries were entered in the competition, which was adjudicated by an expert panel.

To Leave Something More tells the stories of two farmer groups in Ecuador who have been working with PROFRIZA, the Andean Bean Research Network. One group developed a cooperative, quality, bean seed cooperative to serve the farmers in the Loja region of southern Ecuador. Commercial seed producers had ignored the region, assuming it would not be profitable. The second farmer group, situated in the north of Ecuador, was experimenting with environmentally-sound soil conservation techniques on the steep mountain slopes where they grew their beans.

To Leave Something More runs 11 minutes and was produced by Baobab Productions Inc. for CIAT, the International Center for Tropical Agriculture. It was produced and directed by David Mowbray and written by David Mowbray, Alexandra Walter and Nathan Russell. The video is available in English and Spanish from CIAT - contact Nathan Russell, or (in English only) from Baobab Productions Inc.
