More than a newsroom program

In addition to using LineupNX in a newsroom, the program shines in other areas as well. Here are some examples.

Live-to-tape

Many programs are recorded (to tape or hard drive) in advance as if they were live with no capacity to be edited. "Live-to-tape" must follow the same rules as any live program as far as timing is concerned. Sometimes the precise time at which tape will roll (effective 'on-air-time') is not known in advance. LineupNX can be set to accommodate this by setting the show's 'on-air time' to the actual start time just as recording starts. In this way, LineupNX works perfectly in a live-to-tape situation.

Telethon

In many ways a telethon is like a 24 hour news headline service where there are no fixed programs but there are fixed items in each hour. In LineupNX you can make each hour of the telethon a separate show or you can make (for a 24-hour telethon) each block represents an hour of the telecast. Prerecorded items can be loaded into a baggers lineup and saved in the baggers folder. When you need to run a prerecorded item, just copy it for later use from the baggers lineup and then insert it into the appropriate hour. You can even keep separate baggers lineups for different kinds of items (live or recorded performances, packs etc.) to make finding particular items easier.

TV or radio documentary

A news documentary can often be broken into segments of tape or actuality separated by voice over or script. One technique is to isolate the actuality and clip segments that are most likely to be in the documentary. Give each a slug and enter it with its time into a rundown. You can then play with the order in the rundown, structuring the story by arranging the clips. Next you can write the linking continuity using the intro editor. LineupNX will give you a good estimate of the running time of the documentary as you construct the outline. You can also use LineupNX to keep a database of the clips and actuality you have for the documentary. You can create blocks for each type of material, character/interview etc and then move them into the documentary part of the lineup as needed.

Pre-packaged magazine show

Even if a show is not going to be produced live-to-tape, LineupNX can be used to plan and manage various show elements ensuring the show will be on time long before final assembly. LineupNX's unique rundown layering feature lets you create child rundowns as you pre-record segments of the show. This makes final packaging more efficient. LineupNX also supports series and episode numbering.

Program / log a radio station

Use LineupNX to create program logs for small market radio stations. You can include links to live ad copy as well so it can be called up on screen when needed.

Combine material from different shows or units

In some production units parts of a show are lined up by separate producers or teams. For example the sports department may be designated a fixed amount of time in the show and is responsible for filling it. With LineupNX you can have a separate template for sports and the sports editor can fill it in. When it comes time to add the sports items to the full show rundown the LineupNX 'import rundown' feature lets you incorporate the sports rundown with no retyping.
