LineupNX 2

Newsroom Computer System

Versatile and flexible

With the release of LineupNX 2 for Windows we have raised the bar in Newsroom Computer Systems (NRCS). On the daily news, LineupNX 2 lets you work the way you want to work. But while LineupNX 2 has been designed with the newsroom in mind, it can also be a valuable tool and help you in many areas that are not the daily news.

The full flow

In a TV newsroom where an Assignment Editor starts with a future file, develops a first outlook, attends story meetings with journalists and adds material to the outlook and then hands off to a Lineup Editor who then revises the outlook and uses it to build the rundown you can use our full work-flow. Reporters write their stories and link them to the rundownand. The desk writes needed copy stories. Anchors use the teleprompter rehearsal mode to time their copy. Production Assistants work on timing video segments etc. linking video and audio and recording timing cues. At some point rundown page numbers are locked and the rundown is released to the control room where material can be added if needed. Eventually a full show rundown is ready to go to air and then the teleprompter and control room timers come into their own.

Our new internal communications system keeps all computers on the network updated with the latest rundown information whether you have three computers or 30.

The small news room

In a smaller production environment, one person may play several roles -- producer, writer, maybe even switcher (vision mixer) in the control room. The production may only be 15 minutes a day and the full work-flow may not be needed. Not a problem. LineupNX gives you the control you need.

The way you work

Don't use a future file? No need for multiple outlooks? Prefer to create a rundown from scratch each day? No problem. LineupNX lets you work the way you want to work.

Ways to use the program

Daily news

If you are producing a daily show LineupNX is a great tool. Create a master template for the show format or if each day of the week is different (for example and arts and entertainment pack may run only on Fridays, the consumer advocate may be on Tuesdays and so on).

Different departments contribute to a master show rundown

LineupNX is designed so that if your show is compartmentalized with, say, a sports department, a current affairs unit and a weather team in addition to the news team, each unit can lineup its own segment of the show.

In the LineupNX work model there can be only one Editor for each open rundown. The Editor has control of the running order of items, and the insertion of items into the show. But each department can have responsibility for a small rundown for exclusive material. When the rundown is ready, the Editor for the main show rundown merely imports the department rundown.

Live-to-tape

Many programs are produced in "live to tape" mode meaning the show is prerecorded but with no stops as if it were live. The only difference is that the precise time recording will start may not be known in advance. With "live-to-tape" mode enabled, the LineupNX control room timers automatically use the actual time you start recording to set the show timing.

Weekly magazine show

LineupNX rundowns can keep series and episode numbers so you can pre-package a series of programs and have them filed by these numbers rather than by day of the week. Also the parent-child rundown system lets you record portions of the program as they are ready and easily assemble the final show later.

Telethon

A LineupNX rundown can have up to 36 program blocks and can run for 24 hours. You can easily lineup a telethon. Baggers rundowns can hold the information about available pre-recorded segments that can then be dropped into the telethon rundown as it goes. You can have a rundown for reach hour and import each one into a master rundown for the whole show. There are lots of possibilities.

Documentary planner

Documentary journalists and producers can use LineupNX to do the paper cut for a documentary or more. Each element in the documentary can be an item in the doc rundown. This works for a 10 minute doc or an hour-long. Before you get to the NLE you know how much material you have and how it fits together.

Reporter or student work records

Because the LineupNX license permits as many stand-alone installations as you want, each contributor to a show or each student can keep a master rundown of their work. Each story can be developed using an entry in a rundown. LineupNX keeps track of the research notes, scripts, shot logs (recorded in an attached spreadsheet) and other item information.

Work remotely and link later

A reporter can work remotely on a story and with the LineupNX drag and drop functions can easily attache her or his work to the main show rundown. LineupNX will copy and rename all the requisite files.

A full student work record

If each student in a class develops material in their own off-line rundown at the end of the season they can use the LineupNX archive function to hand in their complete semester of work in a single file or zip archive.
